Mount Street, Mayfair, London

It was a dark, cold, evening in London. No rain but a light, crisp, breeze nonetheless. I was walking along Mount Street in Mayfair. On the right hand side of the pavement. I saw shiny bright headlights of a car flash- on to my eyes; almost blinding me.  A slick black Mercedes pulled up and slowly parked on the road. In England, we drive on the left. The car was now in my near sight and I was getting closer and closer.

As I swiftly walked, what I saw next was quite astounding.

Within a matter of seconds… a man in the front passenger seat of the car came out and pulled the door open for someone ready to step out from the back. I believe he was security. He was looking left and right, scouring, observing and keeping his attentive eyes peeled as if he was almost searching for imminent danger. On this very quiet street. As he did so… a very well dressed, tall man steps out of the car. He wore smart, shiny, black patent shoes and a Saville Row tailored suit. Looking pristine. He quickly approaches the door. As he walks closer to the door, to my surprise, the door automatically opens from the inside. I couldn’t see much but as I peered further to my right I could see a group of people gathered ready to greet and welcome this seemingly important person. A few flashing camera lights here and there. The four other security guards seem to appear out of nowhere and caught up with him. He entered quickly and carefully and as soon as he stepped inside- the door shut.

Wow. I thought. I had no idea who I’d just seen but all I knew was that he was someone important who was probably up to something important behind that door in Mayfair. The curiosity was killing me. All I wanted to know was ‘What was happening behind that door?’

This was the very first time I was exposed to the ‘Mystery of Mayfair.’ I was given a glimpse of it but I wanted to know more!

Mayfair, the most affluent part of London where the elite and prominent players of British society often are. These individuals have great talent and influence. Subsequently, they hold in their hands the power of achieving global influence; an impact penetrating borders far beyond English waters. Although, they might not always be based in this specific area of London. These individuals signify the place and influence they have in British society. They are highly successful in the industry they represent and are at their top of their field. Having accomplished great achievements that have lead them to reach the top of their game.

They are what we call distinguished personalities.

Most importantly, these distinguished personalities are out of reach. You might come across their work, indirectly see them everywhere or hear about them. However, you might never have the opportunity to meet them, talk to them, learn from them.

I soon realised that this door was only one of many doors in this place that were full of secrets to a world I wasn’t party too.

What was it like to get a real insight into the ‘Mystery of Mayfair?’

Luck usually played a part and I was quite young, only 15 years old. I had no idea on where to begin. Let alone have any experience in the adventure I was to embark on. I was in school trying to ace my GCSEs (exams).

I’d been given a preview of what the mystery might entail but I wanted to learn more about the people who make up the ‘Mystery of Mayfair’. I felt if I could get the opportunity to meet and talk to these individuals then maybe I could slowly uncover the ‘Mystery of Mayfair.’ After all that’s what’s truly interesting. The people.

Essentially, from that moment onwards, walking on the streets of Mayfair I knew I wanted to engage in this curiosity that I naturally had inside of me. About wanting to know and learn more about how successful people get to where they are?

Luckily, I somehow get the opportunity to do so first hand; in this special city called London.

The story goes like this:-

I was very young, very confident and very brave…
