By Tina Kumar
Lockdown has lead to a quieter London life but it has increased the amount of time we all have available to a great extent. To do whatever we want? What a great time for some self care. Face masks, hair masks, at home facials, yoga, exercise, eating healthy and more. I’ve been taking advantage of the extra time at hand and have ventured into trying out masks and exploring natural face masks. Homemade face masks that my mum has been using for years!
- Garnier face sheet masks £2.99- £3.99
Only needed to be left on the face for 15 mins, if you keep them on for longer it doesn’t make much difference but it's up to you.
The Garneir face sheet masks are great for a quick, easy self care routine to make your mind feel a bit more relaxed.
2. Yoghurt and honey £5
Mix 2/3 tbsp of yoghurt with a few squirts of honey. Mix and apply for 15 mins and wash off.
A natural home-made mask that leaves skin feeling nourished and brightened.
3. L’Oreal Paris Pure Clay Detox Charcoal mask £7.99
A great 10 minute detox mask that can be used for up to 3x a week. Leaving skin feel cleansed and refreshed taking out all impurities. Make sure you apply on a dry face and wait for the clay formula to dry.
4. Crushed/sliced tomatoes or crushed/sliced potatoes £3
Crush the tomatoes or potatoes and apply all over your face. If you don’t want to crush them you can even cut them into slices and put all over your face.
Put some cucumber slices on your eyes and rest, leaving on for 10-15 minutes. Again, very easy and effective natural way to care for your skin.
5. Ole Henriksen Cold Plunge Pore Mask £33
This is an expensive mask but it’s effective. For instantly smaller pores this is your go to. It’s to give the effect of a cold plunge and does wonders to your skin to reducing the look of pores.
Apply to dry skin. Leave on for 15 minutes. Add cool water to lather and rinse.
6. Indian Healing Clay- Aztec Secret £11- £20
You can buy this magical mask on Amazon but delivery charges will be around £8-£10 because it’s basically shipped form the US. Hard product to find in the UK but worth every penny.
Mix the clay mask with water or apple cider vinegar and apply. Known as one of the best masks in the beauty industry and one that will not disappoint! Need I say more?
7. KORA organics Turmeric 2-in-1 Brightening and Exfoliating Mask £47
Another best beauty buy. You can get this on Space NK in the UK. A great mask for practically clearing your skin out, brightening and exfoliating to give glowing skin. Mini facial like result at home. A bit expensive but if you are looking for this desired effect then it’s worth the investment. The mask will last you quite a long time so definitely something worth considering to buy.
8. Sephora face masks £10- £15
The Sephora face masks are great but around £10-£15 on Amazon in the UK and a little less if bought directly from Sephora. There are an array of flavours from Rose, Pearl and Green Tea.

A jelly mask leaves feel fresh and glow available in the UK on Cult Beauty or Sephora if you find yourself in Europe or abroad elsewhere. It’s a bit expense being as the £20.50 is just for 30ml but £41 will get you 80ml tub.

Selfcare in London
By Rashi Vijan Galhotra
Dear fellow Londoners, hope this lockdown is giving you the well-deserved self-pampering time, which I know, has not always been easy to fit into our busy schedules. This ‘Covid’ saga has reminded us to spend some quality time to take care of our bodies, our skin, our hair and our souls, which we fail to forget to do trying to meet deadlines or keeping up with our social calendars.
Self-care has been an essential task to get back to while staying home in lockdown and it is definitely the perfect way to use the break we were all waiting for. “Due to the rising levels of anxiety in current times, people are looking into ancient practices like Meditation, Ayurveda and Aromatherapy and its no surprise that it works wonderfully and large beauty retailers are combining these methods into their products as well,” says Rashi, Founder of Clique Design Studio.
Self-care is more than just eating well or doing some yoga. Running a sumptuous bubble bath and cleansing your skin can do just as much good to help you relax and unwind.
From essential oils to delightfully scented candles, there are plenty of self- care elements you can add to your beauty routine to relax, de-stress and enhance your overall wellbeing.
This curated selection of my favourite beauty & self-care products will give you cozy indulgent solutions for you to drift off easily into self-love - particularly if watching the news has left you feeling clearly more unsettled than normal.
1. Aesop Parsley Seed Facial Cleanser
This new, exceptionally mild Parsley Seed Facial Cleansing Oil is effortless to use and haves the skin feeling balanced, supple and glowing. The ingredients are known to have calming benefits and adhere to aromatherapy for an overall product experience.
2. Vibrating Rose Quartz Sculpting Jade Roller
Face rollers are now common in beauty rituals but Angela Cagalia’s vibrating roller takes this experience to a whole other level.
With thousands of vibrations per minute, the benefits of using a sculptor like the manual jade roller or Gua Sha’s increase ‘tenfold’.
3. Tejasvi Face Mask, Forest Essentials
Sheet masks are great for revitalizing your skin through absorption of essential vitamins and minerals. This mask is packed with brightening extracts, hydrating nutrients and softening moisturizers.
Tejasvi’s organic ingredients are manufactured in the Himalayas and the mask mimics the cooling sensations of its origins.
4. Aromatherapy Associates Deep Relax Bath Oil
Ease into the sublime relaxing aromas of soothing chamomile and sandalwood with this award-winning Bath & Shower Oil.
It really helps me with my sleep woes and naturally relieving daily fatigue. It’s calming effects slow my racing mind and ready my mind for a restorative sleep. It’s also incredibly long lasting.
5. Hollywood Hills Silk Eye Mask
Slip’s eye mask is not just for using on long- haul flights – it’s truly a seamless addition to your bedside table.
The pure silk is far less absorbent than cotton allowing your lovingly applied eye cream to soak into your skin, rather than your pillow. You also will not wake up with those chafing skin creases.
